Conor McGregor Addresses ‘Racial Remarks’ by Claiming’ ‘I’m Half Black’

Conor McGregor hit back at allegations claiming that he directed racially charged comments at Floyd Mayweather Jr. in controversial fashion in Brooklyn on Thursday night

McGregor had been accused by many observers of racism, due to the perceived sensitive nature of comments directed at Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the first two press conferences of their promotional world tour. Both men will lock horns at the MGM T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Aug. 26

On Tuesday night, while Mayweather was shadow boxing on stage for the cameras, McGregor quipped “dance for me, boy”. The comment was enough for McGregor to have sensed that he may have inadvertently made a racial faux pas and he quickly repeated the “dance for me” part with “Sir” added to the end of the sentence in place of “Boy”.

The UFC lightweight champion was then heard to repeat the remark the following night at the Budweiser stage in Toronto, Canada, sparking a backlash from many who have accused the Irishman of intentionally employing racial undertones in his trash talk.

In a memorable press conference at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, McGregor wearing an ostentatious mink coat and colorful pants, remarked on the accusations.  While addressing the crowd in Brooklyn, McGregor said:

“All of the media seem to be saying I’m against black people… Do they not know I’m half black? I’m half black from the belly button down.”

An article which appeared in the New York Times accused the SBG Ireland star pupil of falling short in refuting claims that he holds racist views:

“Conor McGregor gave it his all but white guys still have yet to connect on the ‘i’m not racist but’ explanation.”

While many have argued that McGregor’s use of the word “Boy” is nothing more than a common term used by the Irish to address another man, there are others who insist that the 28-year-old is aware of the offensive nature of the word when addressing an African-American male.

McGregor and Mayweather are scheduled to engage in the final stop of their promotional world tour in London on Friday night.
